Download done.
Flash Plugin installed.

Then, I close all Firefox, start a new one, and go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/ and click on feature tour, where it says I still need to download the flashplayer plugin.

Is flash mentioned in the list of installed plug-ins in firefox? (Type "about:plugins" in the address field to see the list.)

Are you running gutsy i386 or amd64?

Sorry for the delay. This is not a dupe, I'm running Gutsy i386.

I was about to reformat the machine, so I decided to install flashplayer by hand using Adobe's script (not as root user). It worked fine.

Then I wanted to answer your question, so I emptied the contents of ~/.mozilla/plugins

Flash was gone from about:plugins at this point.

Now I reinstalled flashplugin-nonfree, and it's working perfectly (also at about:plugins)

I am not sure what the issue was. As a wild guess, perhaps I didn't have _all_ firefox windows closed.
