Bug Description

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

Doing a dist-upgrade with Kubuntu Gutsy I get:

Setting up flashplugin-nonfree (9.0.48.0.0ubuntu9) ...
Installing from local file /var/cache/flashplugin-nonfree/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
Flash Plugin installed.
update-alternatives: unable to make /usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins/flashplugin-alternative.so.dpkg-tmp a symlink to /etc/alternatives/midbrowser-flashplugin: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing flashplugin-nonfree (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
 flashplugin-nonfree
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Doesn't appear to be a dupe of #131865 as this appears to be a symlink problem.

Same thing, though as a quickfix I just installed midbrowser. Postinst script should probably check if /usr/lib/$p/plugins is a directory before invoking update-alternatives.

I didn't use the work around because I wanted to check whether the next release fixed it for me (and it wasn't stopping other packages upgrading).

I'm happy to say that 9.0.48.0.0ubuntu10 fixed the problem for me, nice work folks!

I'm still receiving this error on Gutsy - even with the /usr/lib/midbrowser/plugins directory created:

Preparing to replace flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.48.0.0ubuntu10 (using .../flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.48.0.0ubuntu10_i386.deb) ...

dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...

dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.48.0.0ubuntu10_i386.deb (--unpack):
subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 127
postinst called with argument `abort-upgrade'
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

 /var/cache/apt/archives/flashplugin-nonfree_9.0.48.0.0ubuntu10_i386.deb
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I can neither remove nor reinstall this plugin - furthermore, this error causes the packages "firefox" and "konqueror" to fail upon upgrade, too.

I managed to fix this bug by linking the file at
/var/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/npwrapper.libflashplayer.so to
/usr/share/firefox/plugins/
