lyx - document class not available

Binary package hint: lyx

i just installed lyx (clean - on gutsy tribe 5)

when i open 'document from template' i get an error box

document class not available.

this is disappointing for a new installation (either do
- not show the unavailable docs in the template
- add in the error message an possible action the user can do to resolve the problem
- resolve the problem during installation

yes, i think it is. but even there i did not find out what i have to do.
it would be good enough a solution, if lyx did include a message not only saying that something is missing, but also what one has to do and from where one gets the files (a typical site, preferably related to lyx/ubuntu) - at least for a starter.

remember: we talk here making the use of lyx easier for the beginners (otherwise they will never get past this first hurdle!)

could you please insert a clarifying comment in the error message and give some text in the help file. (i did search and did not find anything).

In lyx 1.5 the error message is quite clear, it tells the user what the problem is and where to find more information. Further changes on that side should be discussed with upstream and then would be integrated in ubuntu in next release. On ubuntu side perhaps the best thing to do would be to pacakge layouts separately so that you don't have them installed at all if you don't have the textclasses.
