Bug Description

Binary package hint: csound

The version of csound in the repos is 4.23, which was superceded by 5.x in 2005. This means that important implementations of csound such as the Blue environment (I can't remember the url, but you can find it at csounds.com) don't work. In other words the version of csound in the repos urgently needs updating to 5.whatever.

Bug #60314 in csound (Ubuntu)

the Ubuntu csound package (4.23) has been UNUSABLE since Breezy. IT"S BROKEN. REALLY!
Ok I'll stop yelling
Somehow the bug status is marked undecided.

The debian 5.0 package works but then you get messages from auto update suggesting you update the package to the broken 4.23 version.

This also affects the Sugar interface for OLPC, as it's sound activities work with csound 5. Sugar is in PPA only currently but the plan is to get it in Hardy universe soon.

For what it's worth there are unofficial Debian packages for 5.08 Beta at:

deb http://felipe.sateler.com/debian unstable main
deb-src http://felipe.sateler.com/debian unstable main

The author is a member of Debian Multimedia so eventually those packages will make their way into unstable. More testing will certainly speed that up. :-)
