glChess is now included in gnome-games, but Debian has now packaged the non-GNOME version separately, so it probably needs to conflict with gnome-games.

I've done the same, "apt-get install glchess" this fails, with the following side-effects:

Applications->Games is messed up
The glchess included in gnome-games doesn't work anymore.

To fix this, I have done "apt-get --reinstall install gnome-games gnome-games-data"

Perhaps the importance should be raised to medium or high.

the issue is fixed in hardy, gnome-games has a conflicts on glchess
