You can only select an other projection when the focus in not in the field of view text control, the focus has to be in the drop down box with the projections. This is normal behaviour, only the control with the focus accepts changes.
So I don't understand what you mean with "deselecting field of view box".

Then, if I understand the terminology, when I select the Dropdown box, the focus does not change from the Field of View (which appears to be the default selection on that tab). Image attached

How have you selected the dropdown box? With mouse or keyboard?

What is the problem now? When the drop down box is opened I can easily select an other projection, or not?

Dropdown box is selected with a mouse. When I release the mouse button above any projection other than the pre-existing one, it reverts to the pre-existing one.

To select a new Projection I take focus from The FoV box by clicking somewhere on the window's background. Only then can I select a new Projection.

Happens with OS X 10.9.5 too.

I never figured out before why I sometimes couldn't change the projection.

A bug. Clicking on the pop-up menu moves focus there. Focus shouldn't have to be "nowhere" in order for the menu to work. The same thing also happens on the Stitcher tab.

Note however that the Guides menu in the same window doesn't care about the fov field.

Seems to affect several users. But why has nobody reported this issue during the beta and release candidate phase?

This issue seem to stem from the underlying framework wxWidgets.

Could you try if enabling the "Full keyboard access" in the system preferences>keyboards helps around this issue?

Hugin 2014 RC4 on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.5

On the System Preference pane "Keyboard"'s Shortcuts tab, at the bottom, is a set of two radio buttons under the title Full Keyboard Access, which determines which controls tabbing moves you to. (See the attachment.) If this is what you mean:

I had it set to the more traditional Mac setting of "Text boxes and lists only", then I moved it to "All controls". Started Hugin after the change. It made no difference. When the cursor is in the fov text box, changing the pop-up menu setting for Projection has no effect on the selected projection.

(I can't speak for others, but I didn't report it because I hadn't figured it out and didn't see a pattern to Hugin ignoring my menu selection. I was just assuming that Hugin was being flakey, to be honest.)

Please test 2016.2 version and report back if it is fixed.

This bug is still present in 2016.2 and is reproducable as described above: the value in the "projection" drop-down field (both in the preview and stitcher tabs) can only be changed when the there is no focus to any other input field. If another field has focus, you have to click on the empty background of the user interface to loose focus and then select the drop-down.

Hugin is "Version: 2016.2.0.48cb11a23351 built by Niklas Mischkulnig"
running on Mac OS X 10.11.6
