Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

http://octave.sourceforge.net/packages.html

When first scrolling down, and then scrolling up, the header for this page duplicates itself while scrolling up, in the amount that you have scrolled down (i.e up to, say, 10-15 copies of the header).

This is the only page I have seen this on.

x86_64 SMP kernel, nvidia go 7600 w/ newest nvidia drivers, desktop effects enabled.

Can you please try to duplicate this on other sites, If this is the only sit eyou see this on than this is most likely a bug in the page/site

The site in question is the link at the top of the ticket. It is the sourceforge site for GNU octave, a large math package. The cosmetic defect is very apparent after visiting the link with firefox. I have tried others (opera, safari, ie) which do not exibit the behavior. I have not seen this direct issue on other sites with firefox.

i recently tree the site using FF 2.0.0.6 Linux i686 (ubuntu edgy) and cannot reproduce the issue on this platform. It may be a platform- specific issue, or perhaps more likely an issue with hardware accel. (Using 'desktop effects' with nvidia GO 7600).

The issue appears to be resolved by turning off desktop effects. It appears that persistant page headers like the one featured on this site may not be properly rendered by X when 'desktop effects' are enabled.

this is a dupe of an existing bugs that deals with the fact that firefox doesn't play nice with compiz in all cases. If you someone finds the right bug please drop the bug-id here or mark as duplicate directly.

Also reproduceable (rv:1.8.1.13) on Feisty, x86_64 (Core2 6700) 2.6.20-16 generic, ATI Radeon X1300 OpenGL 2.1.7059,

Apparently only when desktop effects are enabled (still a compiz issue?).
