Thomas Edelmann, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-13-7347-laptop/drivers an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A03). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.

I have this same machine and am affected by the same issue. I have applied the A04 version of the OEM BIOS and the problem is unchanged. I have read elsewhere that it is an issue with too many digitizer inputs (touch screen & touchpad), can you please advise how to disable the touch screen digitizer to allow the touchpad to be recognized.

[UPDATE] I applied the advice which appeared int he earlier referenced article involving blacklisting the I2C mode of the clickpad, and it worked. My current kernel version reports.

$ sudo uname -srv
[sudo] password for kevin:
Linux 3.13.0-49-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 10 20:11:33 UTC 2015

The touch screen and the USB-connected mouse continue to be available, and all gestures and settings in touchpad-indicator work as expected. This change should be integrated into the stock installation.

Kevin Calman, it would help immensely if you filed a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.
