[ASUS N550JK] Touchpad recognized wrongly as PS/2 mouse

Bug Description

The touchpad on my ASUS N550JK laptop is being recognized as a PS/2 Logitech Wheel Mouse, rather than as a touchpad. As such, I haven't been able to turn on edge- or two-finger-scrolling, which would be most desirable. The touchpad does function as a simple mouse for moving the cursor and clicking, however.

(I'm sure there are other issues appearing in the log, too. This is a fresh install on a new computer, so I'm working out the issues in the order in which they annoy me.)

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.17 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

OK, I installed the 3.17.0 generic amd64 kernel, but no apparent change after rebooting. Tag added.

My issue exists with both with the current (3.13.0) and the upstream kernels, as can be seen in the original post. I will report it to the upstream bugs as best I can.

Unfortunately this bug is still present in more recent kernel version, and maybe got ignored by upstream. Can we do something else (bump, resend it,...)?

It was reported here https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=86501

goto, bugzilla is legacy, and the wrong venue for this issue, as is noticed reading through this bug report. If you are having an issue, and so your hardware and problem may be tracked, please file a new report with Ubuntu by executing the following in a terminal while booted into the default Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline one) via:
ubuntu-bug linux
