Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD). You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

Could you check which version of ubiquity you are using? I wonder whether this might be a duplicate of bug 1373033 or at least related to it. I don't see whether anyone has triggered that bug with French, but multiple other languages are mentioned triggering it.

the failling version is ubiquity 2.18.8.2.

I am using an updated live-cd from an official kubuntu-14.04.1-desktop-amd64

Using the official live-cd as is, doesn't reproduce the error.

But updating ubiquity (intialy 2.18.8) in a live session, as below, reproduce the same problem:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

kubuntu@kubuntu:~$ ubiquity --version
2.18.8
kubuntu@kubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get update
(...)
kubuntu@kubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get install ubiquity
