Bug Description
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
My version is mint 17 Quiana Cinnamon
tried to open synaptic package manager
this error occured, instead I would expect the normal screen to open,
the problem has continued without change

I am getting this same error when I try to install anything with "sudo apt-get install".
