Bug Description

When using desktop effects (compiz), with the raise_on_click gconf key off, clicking on a window's frame should still raise the window (it does in metacity). Currently it does not.

By frame I mean the entire frame, that is the portion of the window that is used for resizing, not just the title bar.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 9.04? Thanks in advance.

Tried this on
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10
Codename: intrepid

Gnome 2.24.1
compiz 1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1

I used gconf-editor to confirm that all my raise_on_click values were false. Clicking (or click-and-dragging) on the window frame (where I would resize) brings that window to the front as expected (i.e. no bug). I tried it on a window that was behind the another one. Initial focus on the top or back window did not make a differerence, for what it's worth. I have not tested on 9.04.

I am unable to test on 9.04, but can confirm that this is working for me in 8.10.

This problem first started with me with 8.10 (Gnome). Clicking on the inside of a window doesn't give it focus or raise it, though the contents are still accessible. Text can be highlighted and buttons pushed. Clicking the frame gives focus and brings to front but the only way to get access to text boxes is to alt-tab to the window. I've played and set all appropriate values (in gnome window preferences and compiz) and nothing helped besides setting focus to follow the mouse. I've given the desktop computer that had this away and installed Mint. Same problem showed up. I installed openSuse (kde 4.2) and the problem was still there! Nvidia drivers maybe (?) or X?

summary: - gutsy: windows don't raise properly (+compiz, raise_on_click off)

I've tried recreating this bug with 11.10 and was unable to, given the information you've provided. Please either a) upgrade and test or b) increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.
