Bug Description

There is a line of pixels from the wallpaper, between the launcher on the left, and the rest of the content. It is especially visible when contrasted with a darker content (e.g. terminal or a black picture) - because the wallpaper is of that color.

This is best seen on the attached image.

I was also told this could be a Compiz bug, so I'll try to add them as well (I've subscribed "compiz packagers" - not sure if that was what I was supposed to do).

Hi an thanks for trying to make Unity better.

I think this may be the same problems a bug #1283415 for which a fix is currently being tested in the -proposed pocket of Ubuntu 14.04. Please follow the instructions in comment 4 of that bug and see if it fixes the problem for you.

No, I've installed Unity 7.2.3 from trusty/proposed, but that did not fix my issue.

However I don't believe that this is the same bug. By looking at his screenshot, you can see that the line of pixels is separating his *dash* from the launcher, not his launcher and other windows (content).

For me, windows can't get closer than that 1px bar to the launcher, i.e. it functions as a border. But the dash works fine, it's as close as it should be I believe - as you can see on the screenshot that I am attaching.

Well, I can definitely see a line of lighter pixels on the right edge of the Launcher. Not sure if it's by design or an implementation error.

Yep, I can confirm that when setting a darker wallpaper, which I used to have at the time I thought this wasn't a feature, makes the line so unpronounced that I hadn't noticed it before setting a brighter wallpaper.

If I may ask - why is this a feature? It looks awkward.

I concur. How's this a feature? What purpose does it serve other than looking out of place?

This bug gets brought up every once in a while on Ask Ubuntu. The most recent one is https://askubuntu.com/questions/816448/how-to-remove-the-right-launcher-border. I am not sure why this 1-pixel line is a feature. Can the devs please explain?
