Inkscape crashes while writing text

Bug Description

OS: Lubuntu 14.04 LTS amd_x64
Hardware: Acer Aspire 5517, 4GB ram, AMD Turion64 x2 TL-60 2.0Ghz processor
Inkscape Version: 0.48.5

When creating simple text, using default size and font, I can get a sentence or two in and then the program stops responding and the only way to resume work is to force quit and relaunch, therefore loosing all unsaved work. The program often crashes after pressing backspace repeatedly, such as when deleting an entire word.

If this is just a product of my hardware configuration, then a quicksave and recovery feature would be amazing.

@Eric - A recovery feature already exists in Inkscape, but it works on crashes only. In your case, Inkscape hangs but doesn't crash and saving in that context is a bit more difficult.

Identical problem here. Same Os. The issue appear on two completely different machines. It makes Inkscape unusable (freezes every 5~10 minutes of work). Tried to uninstall/purge, delete preferencies.xml and strace. When on strace it doesn't freeze.
Never had any significant/similar probblem before. (on older versions). Maybe a Lubuntu issue?

I have the same problem. Fresh install of Lubuntu 14.04 LTS, fully updated as of today. Installed inkscape, tried to write some text, and it hung. The inkscape window goes black, then I get "the window is not responding do you want to terminate process" etc.

I had exactly the same issue in Inkscape 0.48.5 r10040 and ubuntu 14.10.

Editing or typing text would result in blur window, hanged.

Search Language Support in your Dashboard, then under Language select Keyboard Input method System: none

and restart (must) your system resolved the issue
