Bug Description

i am using the same config folder for quassel in kubuntu 14.04.1 and also on kde plasma next (installed via kubuntu devel ppa files).
when i am using quassel in kubuntu14.04 it works and displays the username i am using by default, but when i log of, log in to kde plasma next - not even starting quassel there, and back to kubuntu 14.04 i often end up with a random name of several letters and numbers in quassel.
for example yesterday it showed:
<7GHAA3F6G>.

this problem fixes itself after a reboot but should not exist at all i think.

Sounds like the first Quassel instance isn't stopped when switching to plasma5. Then when switching back another Quassel instance is started. This second instance tries to use the nick name that's blocked by the first instance, so the IRC network assigns a random string as nick name.

Thanks for checking again. I did ask the upstream developers and whatever was going on, they didn't think it was related to Plasma 5. Feel free to reopen with additional information if it happens again.
