Cursor disappears in Gnome Terminal

Bug Description

Intermittently, but regularly, the cursor (the terminal cursor, not the mouse cursor) disappears when using Gnome Terminal. I can still type, and everything else works, but I can't see the insertion point.

It affects only one terminal window -- the cursor appears in all of the other terminal windows. Closing and reopening Gnome Terminal restores the cursor.

Using "stty sane", "reset", "clear" in various combinations doesn't fix it. Nor does using Terminal / Reset & Clear from the menu.

If I open another tab in the same window, the cursor appears in the new tab, but doesn't appear in the original one, even if I switch back and forth.

Linux Mint 17 Qiana, Cinnamon, using the "Linux Mint" theme, GNOME Terminal 3.6.2.

fwiw, I resorted to resetting the cursor color in my PS1 environment variable:

        # Reset the cursor color.
        PS1="$PS1\[\e]12;#c0c0c0\a\]"
