Bug Description

I've had numerous failures attempting to install Ubuntu on this laptop. I used the laptop (with Windows) for a couple months before trying Ubuntu so I believe the hardware is good.

I downloaded the Ubuntu ISO and wrote it to a USB thumbdrive using Ubuntu's Startup Disk Creator. I booted from the USB drive and first had it self-check its own media. The self-check reported that there were no errors.

On my first installation attempt a dialog box with title "??? ????" and content "??? ???" appeared over the region selection window. That dialog could not be dismissed but captured focus and allowed no other interaction. Upon reboot the installation passed through the language pack downloads and then crashed. This submission comes from that crash.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD). You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. You might also retry your installation with new media. In the event that is is not in fact an error with your installation media please set the bug's status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

As I mentioned in the comments I did run the self-check and it reported zero errors on the media.
