Luiz, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1366661

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Christopher,

I tested again with 14.04.2 version. Nouveau drivers works normally but
nvidia proprietary drivers still fallen off bus. the kernel is 3.16,
nvidia 331.113.

In my test, i downloaed and installed steam/cs source. When running cs
source the system crash, except when nouveau drivers are in use.

I read on nvidia forum that it is a ACPI bug and already have a patch.
accordingly to:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/567297/linux/linux-3-10-driver-crash/13/

But, a still haven't patched/tested.

I am without hd/ssd, i installed ubuntu on pendrive, i will download
vivid vervet and test, ok?!

Thanks

Hi again,

All the systems i have tested: ubuntu 12.04.5, ubuntu 14.04.2, debian 8
jessie gnome/kde desktop.

In all tests the system crashed, but with nouveau drivers the system runs
fine without any problem.

The problem is between nvidia/kernel, maybe an ACPI bug or nvidia driver
bug.

A long time ago this bug( nvidia has fallen ) occurs in windows 7 ultimate
too. So it is PROBABLY a nvidia bug, but without no sure.

If more people test would be interesting. Test with Fedora for example, a
non-like debian distro.

Luiz, testing 12.04.5 is equivalent to testing Trusty, as they share the same kernel and xorg stack. You would have to test 12.04.0 to test the original Precise kernel and xorg stack.

Hi Christopher,

I have a desktop with a nvidia gtx 780ti and i don't have any problem with
nvidia proprietary drivers, no NVIDIA HAS FALLEN.

With my gtx 580m i have a lot of problem, but with nouveau drivers there is
no problem.

With gtx 580m, i tested with lastest kernel and nvidia drivers. KDE, GNOME,
and no success.

With WINDOWS the problem occurs too.

Maybe it can be a hardware problem, but if it was nouveau driver would
crash too.

Thanks

Luiz

Luiz, just to advise, this report is only scoped to the hardware (GTX 580M) and problem noted in the Bug Description. If you are having an issue with a different card/HW combination, please file a new report that.

Just to clarify, did you test 12.04.0?
