Bug Description

Hi,

I'm using ubuntu touch on my Nexus 4. Since I've only Ubuntu installed (no dual boot any more since two months), I discovered a bug : After three weeks of use, the phone doesn't detect the SIM card any more. I tested the SIM card on another phone, it works. I tested another SIM card in the Ubuntu phone,the problem happens, so it's not the SIM card itself the problem. The only choice I have it to reinstall the Ubuntu image (just updating isn't enought, as it keeps data I guess). It's the third time it happens (each time after almost 3 weeks of use).

If it can help, my carrier is Sosh (by Orange France), and the SIM card I tested is a pure Orange SIM card (it works well when this bug doesn't appear, so it's really the phone the problem).

I don't really know how to reproduce, as I didn't do anything special when the bug occur (no recent updates, no app installation, not when I open a specific app...).

As this is my primary phone, I have to reinstall, and I will lose every logs. But if you need any other file from the phone, ask me I will give them to you next time it happens.

Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

libc6 version 2.19-4ubuntu2 required, but 2.19-10ubuntu1 is available
ofono version 1.12.bzr6872+14.10.20140804-0ubuntu1 required, but 1.12.bzr6874+14.10.20140820.is.1.12.bzr6872+14.10.20140804-0ubuntu1 is available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

I'm updating the phone (without deleting datas). Is there a way to
complete the actual bug or does I open another one ?

@Kevin

Thanks for the detailed reporting.

First, the bug was marked Invalid automatically as our retracing system only keeps debug symbols for the latest version of a particular package, if a crash can't be retraced, then it gives up. Not, the best system, but it's what we have to work with.

Have you been keeping your device up-to-date?

Do you ever reboot the device and/or power cycle the device during the three week period?

Is the device still in this state or did you re-flash?

In theory, if ofono crashes, it should be re-spawned by upstart. The syslog ( from /var/log ) would be super helpful, as would the output from /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-modems.

My guess is that the device is getting into a bad state and this in turn forces glib to assert on some condition ( out-of-memory maybe )?

If you can reproduce the crash again, definitely ping me on IRC, or if I'm not available, someone else on #ubuntu-touch and ask for assistance in manually viewing the crash file via apport-cli ( you'll need to install the ofono -dbg package too ).

Actually the system still has the problem, even if I just updated to the last proposed version, keeping datas. Until today, I always kept up to date the system with every last devel image (never in devel-proposed until today).

Here is the result of /usr/share/ofono/scripts/list-modems :

[ /ril_0 ]
    Lockdown = 0
    Emergency = 0
    Online = 0
    Powered = 1
    Revision = M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.84

About reboot, yes I rebooted almost 5 times a day during the last 3 weeks (due to freeze problems with Unity, I was waiting for the next devel image to report if still present).

Tony I have observer same issue on Krillin. It was up to date on rtm channel.
Same symptoms, phone was not detecting any SIM card, ofonod crashing. And only way out was to wipe the phone and start from the start.
