Bug Description

I suggest being able to press a configurable hotkey or key combo for starting a screencast on current settings, or for stopping a screencast, so you don't have to go and do the indicator menu and then have to edit out that footage.

For now, they aren't configurable, but they are there. :) This is mention in a README. The support is still sort of experimental.

SUPER-CTRL-Q - Quit
SUPER-CTRL-W - Show/Hide main window
SUPER-CTRL-R - Start Recording
SUPER-CTRL-F - Finish Recording

Changed in kazam:
importance: Undecided → Wishlist
status: New → Confirmed

Dear,
Inorder to save a Screencast, I tried to use hot-keys to stop and save my recording, but none of these works as you indicate.
If I use Crtl+F the view on the screen goes to fullscreen view, but do not stops the recording
How can I stop and save my recording?

Ubuntu 16.04
Kazam: 1.4.5

Hey @ptrinidad007,
The hotkeys use SUPER and CTRL. SUPER is the Windows key on most computers.

What happens if my keyboard does not have the SUPER key? I'm using a classic IBM model M keyboard, with no such a "Windows" key...

Hi,
I like Kazam so much, I like to contribute to this.
If No one has taken up this task, can I?

I can change the HotKeys to
  Ctrl+Q for Quit
Ctrl+W for Show or hide menu
  Ctrl+R for Start Recording
  Ctrl+F for Finish Recording.

No, please do NOT change to just CTRL+* because those hotkeys will be used by most other applications (depending on what application is in the active and in the foreground).

I am completely ok with the predefined hotkeys and do not need the ability to change - for me it is sufficient to know them. :-)

Would be good to add them to the about dialog so anybody can have a quick look at them.

BTW: In the list the most important - for pausing - for me is missing (but found it out by trying): SUPER+CTRL+P

So going through this thread, i understood that there are two ways to work with Kazam.

If you see a Kazam icon pop somewhere in your system's task bar, you can continue to use UI for following functions.

(You can start by clicking on the "Capture" button in the Kazam window too)

Start recording:
 - click Kazam icon > Start recording; or
 - use key combination [CTRL + SUPER + R]

Pause recording:
 - click Kazam icon > Pause recording; or
 - use key combination [CTRL + SUPER + P]

Stop recording:
 - click Kazam icon > Stop recording; or
 - use key combination [CTRL + SUPER + F]

On my system, Plasma version 5.19.5, the hotkeys are default assigned to Wacom. Even after removing those Wacom shortcuts in the settings, I am still having trouble. CTRL+SUPER+R starts recording, but the pause and finish hotkeys do not work.

I think this should follow kde/plasma standards and have the shortcuts configurable in the settings.

Having to go to the icon and click finish means you're recording yourself stopping the recording which is bad enough to start with, and horrible if you have to un-fullscreen whatever you're recording first.
