I tried to install i8kutils from Synaptic.

When attempting to install this package on Ubuntu 14.10, I get the following error message:

When attempting to install it on Ubuntu 15.04, I get the following error message:

The common problem is that the i8kmon fails to start.

I could install i8kutils by forcing the load of kernel module:

    sudo modprobe i8k force=1

Also for restarting I've added an option to the module:

    sudo su
    echo options i8k force=1 > /etc/modprobe.d/i8k.conf

The solution suggested by @Cruz Fernandez (cruz-fernandez) works for me.
Tested on ubuntu 15.10 64bit. I executed the following command, before doing "apt install i8kutils" again.

    sudo modprobe i8k force=1

After doing the sudo modprobe i8k force=1 I could however install i8kutils without error.
