Bug Description

Hello

I've switched from ubuntu 14.04 32 bits to 14.04 64 bits.

In the additional driver tab of my system parametrers, the usual nvidia proprietary driver which wera appearing in the 32 bits version does not appears in the 64 bits version.

As a workaround, I've installed this PPA : https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/ubuntu/ppa but the system refuses to add the updates after this PPa is installed because it says the updates have not been verified....I have not have this problem on 32 bits...

Hello

I've updated my bios with an ISO image to version 572.

After reboot, I wento to the update manager to check but the only additional drivers proposed are those given by the PPA (see my fist post).

yann@yann-desktop:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

ciryon, given the drivers are offered in 32-bit, but not x64, this may that ubuntu-drivers-common is not configured appropriately to offer the drivers for x64. Let an investigation into this be the next step.

ciryon, it wouldn't hurt to test Utopic, and see if this is resolved in it via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

I usually install only LTS now.

Do you mean by "testing" that I try a live-cd session ?

Hello

I come back to see if there is any updates.

So What do you want me to do with Utopic : try is as a live-session or install it on a new partition parralel to Trusty ?

Told me that "Looks like the GT740 wasn't supported until nvidia-337, and Ubuntu 14.04 only has nvidia-331. Perhaps this is why it didn't offer any additional driver.'
Checking nvidia site : http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/76278/en-us
I found this for the 337.25 version :

Added support for the following GPUs:

    GeForce GTX TITAN Z
    GeForce GT 740
    GeForce 830M
    GeForce 840M
    GeForce 845M
    GeForce GTX 850M
