Bug Description

In testing Mako RTM image #14 I found that the majority of formats I tried would not play in media player. These files are at: http://people.canonical.com/~brendan-donegan/test_videos/

Only MP4 plays right now - i.e. the .MP4 sample clip and the camera/ video. I'm quite certain that in the past .MOV played as well, and the other videos come from a test plan for scopes https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlan/localmediascopes so I imagine they worked at some point.

since this is a regression that needs to be understood where its coming from at least; I will mark it as critical for now. Once we have identified the source, we reassess priority also in relation with Krillin impact.

Turns out MOV does play - but it doesn't show in the scope on Mako - but does in Krillin. Also it only has audio in Mako.

Are you sure these all played. I just tested image #200. This is prior to the RTM split and the same results. I am not sure we have the proper gstreamer support in the image to parse all the different container formats.

The one knows format that is supported is mp4.

After further investigation of the video files in question, they are not in the mpeg4 format. Only mp4 is supported in hardware for decode. So this is in fact not a bug but rather we just do not support them.

Not a regression at all, I've the same problem since first trusty images I tested. Bug reported there in january : https://bugs.launchpad.net/media-hub/+bug/1267232. This bug seems to be a duplicate of my old one.

Mike's comments are accurate. All of the major container formats are supported (like .MOV, .MP4, etc...) but only h.264 and mpeg4 video codecs are supported at this time.
