Bug Description

CID: 201402-14677 Dell Vostro 3446

I'm not sure if this is expected behaviour, the proprietary driver does not available for the graphic card on this system under 14.04.1
08:00.0 3D controller [0302]: NVIDIA Corporation GF117M [GeForce 610M/710M/820M / GT 620M/625M/630M/720M] [10de:1140] (rev a1)

This will affect the hybrid graphic tests, I will mark this as a blocker

Steps:
1. Install 14.04 + update (3.13.0-34)
2. Try to install the proprietary driver by searching "driver" in the dash

Expect result:
* A proprietary nVidia driver available

Actual result:
* No proprietary driver available

I'll need at least the following files (after you reproduce the error) to see what's going on:

1) /var/log/Xorg.0.log
2) /var/log/gpu-manager.log
3) the output of dmesg (the attached dmesg shows only nouveau)

Verified with this again today,
on 201402-14677 Dell Vostro 3446 with 14.04 (3.13.0-34, nothing changed when I open this bug), the drivers are now available.

Also double confirmed this on 201211-12070 Dell Vostro 5460, drivers are available with 14.04.1 stock image + apt-get update.

I think we could safely close this bug.
Thanks!

2. No additional driver
3. Upgrade
4. Still No additional driver

What should I do?

Thanks

The actual configuration of my computer is:
1. Fresh install of Ubuntu
2. Upgrade Ubuntu
That's the state of all the logs I attached.

I didn't re-try to install NVIDIA driver manually and therefore I didn't blackout nouveau. Next step would be: blackout nouveau, stop lightdm and install NVIDIA driver. But then, I am loosing the desktop.

by "reproducing the problem", I meant installing the nvidia-331 package (do not use the installer from NVIDIA's website), letting the system crash, and collecting the logs for me.

Also, please do not try to blacklist nouveau. It's all done automatically. Simply type the following and reboot:

sudo apt-get install nvidia-331

Then collect the logs.

Hi
I did as you said: simply sudo apt-get install nvidia-331
I didn't loose the desktop but the "Additional Drivers" is missing.
However it seems that the driver was installed well!!!!!
I am attaching all the logs.
What command can I run to check that NVIDIA is properly installed and working?

It seems that I owe you a huge thank you.

Michele
