Bug Description

1. Not all ubuntu subsections are referenced: for exemple I would be happy to have access to packages.ubuntu.com or fridge.ubuntu.com from the main page.
2.hardware.ubuntu.com still uses the old look and feel
3. apps.ubuntu.com is completely buggy (does not supply identity information and some images are broken). Is this section really useful (why did you split it from packages.ubuntu.com which is what users want the most?)

not a bug but a suggestion:
Try to Keep It Simple. When I visit the website, the impression that I have is that you have too much ongoing projects and that I will never suceed to find what I want. I always must go through google. At least create a site map like the one from debian.

You are the distro with the most talented designers. But the website is extremly important too because it is the first impression that newcomers will have. You should explain what is ubuntu on the main page.
A very good website (in term of organisation of the sections) is Arch. Perhaps you should try something like them.

Good job anyway! ;-)

Thanks for the comments.

There are around 100 subdomains, so putting them all in the global nav will not work. However, creating a 'sitemap' or directory of these would be helpful and something we are looking at.

We are aware of the certification site look and that work has also been scheduled, but is not part of this project.

Apps is also not part of this project.

And we do try to keep it simple, but we are trying to balance a lot of different audiences and products, but we absolutely try to be user centred and focus on simplicity at all times.

Peter

p.s. I will check out Arch

Hi Peter!

Thank you very much for your answer!
Maybe the Arch exemple was a bit exagerated in the sense that they offer a single product and try to target a single type of audience. I understand that the Ubuntu structure is much larger and thus more difficult to manage.
I am very glad that you are considering the creation of a sitemap that would regroup the whole canonical organisation, various flavours, etc... Also I think that adding a reference to the Launchpad's related project for each of those website would remove any ambiguity.
