In maas.log:

I am putting this to high because it's indicative not of a log problem, but of lacking infrastructure around handling comms errors.

Not sure I understand your comment Julian, the message seems perfectly valid to me, apart from the fact that it's missing quotes:
Power state has changed from 'unknown' to 'connection timeout'.

"connection timeout" is not a state! Something is not handling timeouts. (ie comms errors)

This has been fixed in the power monitor by checking that the return value is 'on' or 'off'.
