I also have this problem. I recently installed 14.04.1 on a new Xeon system and did not see this for a few days. However, as I have done system configuration, I now find that every time I log in, I get a pop-up window with a title "Document Not Found" and the above message at the content. The yelp package is installed, but I didn't do this manually. I assume it was part of the initial installation or else was installed as a dependency by some other package that I installed.

When I select help from the pull-down menu, it accesses the following url without problem:

file:///usr/share/xubuntu-docs/about/xubuntu-index.html

When I search the filesystem for "ubuntu-help/index", the only hits are:

/usr/share/help-langpack/en_AU/ubuntu-help/index.page
/usr/share/help-langpack/en_CA/ubuntu-help/index.page
/usr/share/help-langpack/en_GB/ubuntu-help/index.page

Solving the problem would be great. As a workaround, stopping the pop-up at login would be nice.

I'm not able to reproduce the problem on my 14.10. In a terminal window both

yelp

and

yelp help:ubuntu-help

open the Ubuntu User Guide.

Can you please reinstall the ubuntu-docs package and let us know if it helps.

sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-docs

The Help>Contents bug still exists on MATE 1.8.x, various programs (on Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS), including:
Caja "The URI ‘help:mate-user-guide/goscaja-1’ does not point to a valid page."
MATE Calculator "The URI ‘help:mate-user-guide/goscaja-1’ does not point to a valid page."
MATE System Monitor "The URI ‘help:mate-system-monitor/index’ does not point to a valid page."

@Mark: That sounds like a MATE specific issue, related to an Ubuntu version where MATE was not an official flavour. Does it exist a mate-user-guide package, and do you have it installed? Probably you should ask the MATE team for help.

@Gunnar: I think you're right. I do not have a mate-user-guide package. I'll have to follow up with the MATE team.
Thanks
