Could not calculate the 12.04-14.04 upgrade

Updating from 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS. Worked fine on an old HP desktop PC this morning, also running the KDE / Kubuntu 12.04 OS and Plasma GUI, but does not like updating my Toshiba Sattelite 100 laptop. Don't know why this should make a difference. Will restart the laptop and try again.

Tried again after rebooting, to the same result. Upgrade dialog just vanishes shortly after the error message one closes. Also the laptop had issues rebooting, dropped out of the restart screen before login and had to check the drive for errors before finally working itself out to display the GUI and permit me to login to my session.

It appears that the kubuntu 12.04 LTS KDE Plasma GUI Muon Update Manager (now obsolete and replaced with PPASC - the PPA Software Centre, which currently fails to launch on my kubuntu 14.04 system) might have been interfering with the install that it was trying to effect. Once removed and the 14.04 install was launched from the terminal shell, the install worked by way of that method.
