Need a canonical list of operating system types for images (vmware_ostype)

From Steve Gordon on the mailing list: I found a page [1] linked from the Grizzly edition of the compute guide [2] which has since been superseded. The content that would appear to have replaced it in more recent versions of the documentation suite [3] does not appear to contain such a link though. If a link to a more formal list is available it would be great to get this in the documentation.

I'd like to update the title on this bug - Reading through the material and links provided, it seems to refer specifically the vmware_ostype property, not the more generic os_type property.

Any objections?

In the mean time, I'll take ownership and start working out a current list.

a few paragraphs in we come across:
Common image properties are also specified in the /etc/glance/schema-image.json file. For a complete list of valid property keys and values, refer to the OpenStack Command-Line Reference.

The last part is a link to the cli reference; click it. It lists all the properties, including vmware_ostype, the main difference is it is now in table format, but scrolling down or ctrl-f searching leads to the standard description of the vmware_ostype property, followed by the very same 'thinkvirt.com' link that's been around for the last several revisions which detail out all of the different options supported.

I think this covers the bug.
