Bug Description

Hello,

First of all, I'm not completely confident in this timeline (I'm not sure when and what has been upgraded and when those took effect), but before upgrade everything was fine and dandy on:

Jul 11 13:55:06 strange kernel: [ 0.000000] Linux version 3.13.0-32-generic (buildd@toyol) (gcc version 4.8.2 (Ubuntu 4.8.2-19ubuntu1) ) #56-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 7 11:32:12 U
TC 2014 (Ubuntu 3.13.0-32.56-generic 3.13.11.4)

Now:

Linux strange 3.16.0-6-generic #11-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jul 28 01:59:56 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

And now without acpi=off but without quiet and splash booting freezes here:

I can upload kern.logs from July and of course can provide current ones. Interestingly using pci=nocrs makes no difference, I have to disable ACPI otherwise no computing that day!

Thanks for taking a look at this.

Pas, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4153#bios an update to your BIOS is available (F18). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello,

It seems that the BIOS update helped very much!

pas@strange:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.16.0-6-generic root=UUID=fba348ec-fc7c-4c7f-b78b-026be76c4568 ro quiet splash

Thank you again for the time taken.
