Bug Description

I just tried to use Gutsy Gibbon Alpha 5 (Tribe 5) and it still does not work with the Belkin F5D7050, not sure of the version it is but it does have a 2571wf chip in it. I am including a pastebin link which has the lsusb output, dmesg error's, the kernel found with uname -r, and the lsmod | grep rt command. May I ask why this is still not working as it hasn't ever, even back to Dapper?

here is the syslog from trying to enable it as well as the lsusb -v you requested. I have not blacklisted anything and it appears from dmesg that both the rt73usb and the rt2x00usb are trying to use it.

Also, it appears as though user Austin_KW has some knowledge regarding this and maybe can help here?? See ubuntu forums post here:

Huh? I provided the requested info awhile ago, did this get lost somehow? Shouldn't this be a bug that should be worked on for the release of Gutsy? Any more info needed I would be happy to provide as this is a "major bug" IMO.

Hi!

Having a similar USB wifi stick (edimax EW-7318USg featuring the same RT73 chipset as yours), i had also problems, but in feisty (not upgraded yet).
The point is, the solution I found was to fall back to the legacy driver (rt73 instead of rt73usb, the new driver) and it works well.
I dig up a little and found this on the rt2x00 forum [1], concerning feisty. Basically, "The Ubuntu-shipped rt73usb is quite old and not functional. ". The version used in ubuntu feisty is 0cvs20061202-1. Now i have checked for current gutsy's version : 0cvs20070219-2ubuntu1.
So my guess is that a more recent CVS snapshot of rt2x00 should fix this problem...

Anyway in order to have all the necessary information to process the bug, could you give us the remaining needed information :
- The output of "cat /proc/version_signature"

Thanks!

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!

Per a decision made by the Ubuntu Kernel Team, bugs will longer be assigned to the ubuntu-kernel-team in Launchpad as part of the bug triage process. The ubuntu-kernel-team is being unassigned from this bug report. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies for more information. Thanks.
