If i reply to an email or add someone to address book or ...

this justy happens. i've tried removing most of my user config /home/bla/.mozilla-thunderbird/ except my mail but its still the same.
installing lightning extension I just get a garbled window with a few scattered bits of interface, not useable.
In fact I can't do anything except receive and browse email? btw I have two config directories /home/bla/.thunderbird/ and /home/bla/.mozilla-thunderbird/ ?...

Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions
on [1], or upload the crash report that probably was generated during
the crash and that should be located at /var/crash/ to [2].

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if
this crash is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is
very important for us to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

ahh now remember when I got upgraded to 2.0.0.6 version of TB I lost my internet connection while TB was updating.
and so couldn't complete updating themes & extentions etc.

They are marked for retracing. However we have problems for retrace x86-64 coredumps, so if you have some spare time and you wish to help us, can you get a retrace or a new crash with dbg symbols packages installed? Just follow the hints at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs.

I'm experiencing the same bug when composing mail or editing account properties, even with a blank new profile.

Following the instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs#head-523978f1f3009b1b57ef020d5e3ff8674e737f41 (replacing "firefox" by "thunderbird" of course) I created the attached file gdb.log which hopefully is of some help.

Both Thunderbird and Sunbird don't crash while I use the "Glossy" or "Human" desktop theme.
I was using the theme called "Crux" when I experienced the crash and can still reproduce it there, so this is probably related to Bug #127092: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gray-theme/+bug/127092
