[gutsy tribe-5] cannot install

Gusty install install (amd64) fails to install on a HP dv5020us. The problems were not detected with the default feisty install.

After loading kernel and init, X fails to start. The screen flashes 3 times, then the wallpaper is being displayed, flashes one more time and the Gnome menu appears, flashes one more time and the desktop icons appear, then the screen freezes.

This problem appears with the standard install. When choosing the "safe-mode" install, X won't start either.

The graphic chipset is an ATI Xpress 200M.

I tried running the live cd on a gateway laptop. It is a turion 64x2 with an ati xpress 1150. I get to the wallpaper and then it freezes. I am using fiesty with xgl and compiz fusion and I have no problems. I posted these comments on a similar report.

Thanks for taking the time to report this problem.
