Bug Description

While working through the printer install process
The printer was found and correctly identified as DCP-7065DN
However the list of drivers offered did not include this and recommended driver DCP-7045N which did not work.
Experimenting with choosing and finally choosing DCP-8065DN did work and the printer functions properly just blind luck.
What I expected was to be offered the correct driver by name.
This may be an error in naming or transcription; not sure.
Very frustrating, to be sure and took a fair amount of work to find the right driver.

Sorry I don't know how to remove the patch.
I had attached that screenshot because it was a fix for me. and has been with two different machines.
The problem is genuine and valid.

DCP-7065DN is a host based printer, this printer uses a proprietary format for the job data and therefore the only free software driver for it is the "brlaser" driver: http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Brother/Brother-DCP-7065DN
Ubuntu includes only free software printer drivers. Where did you get the DCP-8065DN ppd, can you attach it to this bug report?

in answer to : Where did you get the DCP-8065DN ppd? I just choose the driver from the CUPS menu during the install process by trial and error with lots of others because the offered/recommended 7045 driver did not work.
I don't know how to direct or answer you further.
While the 7065 was correctly identified as in the screenshot it was not offered in the list of drivers .
Is it possible that the 8065 was mislabelled, and was actually the correct offering?
Also, now that the printer is working should I install the "brlaser" driver?
The reason for filing a bug is that there must be others in the community struggling with the same problem.

Nice to hear that, brlaser is already packaged for the next Ubuntu release 14.10 (utopic).
I have filed a bug report to install printer-driver-brlaser package by default in a desktop environment to get it automatically set up in the future, closing as a duplicate.
