Mouse pointer freezes after opening up a new gdm login

Bug #134982 reported by Johne

Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)
Confirmed
Undecided
Unassigned

Bug Description

When in Gnome, and I click Quit and chose to switch users, I then get put into a GDM session. GDM loads fine, my keyboard works, everything works, except my pointer. If I then hold down "Ctrl+Alt+F7/Any F* key", and switch my currently logged in session, and then back to gdm, my pointer begains to work. This really quite annoying. Sorry, I don't know what I should provide to help. Thanks. I'm using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, with intel gma965 graphics/1420n by dell.

i experience the same behaviour here on my laptop with gutsy and using ati open source graphic driver.
this only seems to affects the touchpad which is using xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, i also try using an external usb mouse, inserting it before and after switch user, everytime with the same results:
external mouse works ok, touchpad is frozen.

this is just for the second X server, in the first x session the touchpad keeps working ok.

it seems to me to be an xsever-xorg-input-synaptics issue, but could 915resolution be the culprit.

I'm seeing the same thing with the touchpad on an acer aspire 3690.

Mouse is frozen on the switch user screen until I change vterms away and back again. When I switch back to the original session, the mouse is again frozen, and switching vterms doesn't fix it. If I don't switch vterms originally, then the mouse works fine on the original session.
