Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic

Hello,

This is my first time reporting what I think is a bug.

I am running Gutsy which is fully patched and updated at the time of this post. My system is an AMD64 system based on a ASUS M2NBP-VM mother board which has the following sound card onboard:

00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Unknown device 81b3
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
        Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR-
        Latency: 0 (500ns min, 1250ns max)
Interrupt: pin B routed to IRQ 11
        Region 0: Memory at fe024000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
                Flags: PMEClk- DSI- D1- D2- AuxCurrent=0mA PME(D0-,D1-,D2-,D3hot+,D3cold+)
                Status: D0 PME-Enable- DSel=0 DScale=0 PME-
        Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask+ 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable-
                Address: 0000000000000000 Data: 0000
                Masking: 00000000 Pending: 00000000
        Capabilities: [6c] HyperTransport: MSI Mapping

Sound worked fine with 2.6.22-9-generic, and lsmod shows the snd-hda-intel module was loaded. After doing apt-get upgrade the kernel was upgraded to 2.6.22-10 which no longer contains the snd-hda-intel module and therefore audio is no longer working for me.

Therefore I believe this module is missing from the 2.6.22-10-generic package.

Thank you.

Hi,
  The module does seem to exist for me (and works for me);
for me I can see the file at:

/lib/modules/2.6.22-10-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko

I've heard of other people having audio problems on gutsy; but certainly for me the module is being loaded
and it is working (at least prior to suspend).

Hello.

I haven't had any troubles with audio myself on Gutsy except for this.

I suspected perhaps it was the linux-image-2.6.22-10-generic in my apt-proxy cache, so I deleted the package from my apt-proxy cache on another server and from my local apt cache. I then reinstalled and had the same problem.

So then I tried downloading the package manually from ca.archive.ubuntu.com and extracted it using dpkg. Searching inside the package I see the other alsa modules but not snd-hda-intel. I then tried downloading the package from archive.ubuntu.com, debian.charite.de,
and tezcatl.fciencais.unam.mx and found the module to be missing in them as well.

According to this it should definitely be in there:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/cgi-bin/search_contents.pl?word=snd-hda&searchmode=searchword&case=insensitive&version=gutsy&arch=i386

I have the same problem. M2NBP-VM worked with Feisty. Loaded Gutsy and it doesn't work.

I did find the file /lib/modules/2.6.22-10-generic/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko. I see using lsmod that it lists it as well. Below is a portion of my lsmod.

I am not a very capable Ubuntu user yet, so I have not been able to fix the problem. I hope to get help but whoever helps will have to be very specific on the steps. My PCI hardware includes a Hauppauge PVR-150 and a PcHDTV HD-5500 that I suspect may be part of the problem.

Try to install the linux-ubuntu-modules package for your kernel, eg linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-11-generic or linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-11-386

It looks like the snd-hda-intel module was moved there.

Please, don't ignore this bug. I have another which seems related (#134734) and no one ever answered to it. Anyway there seems to be many people with problems with HDA Intel sound module since upgrading to Gutsy-dev and it's definitly not fixed.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!
