Bluetooth keyboard and mouse always in low power state

Bug Description
I'm using an Apple keyword and magic trackpad, connected as bluetooth devices.
The annoying thing is that the Bluetooth applet constantly reports these devices as have 0% energy, everytime I reconnect one of these devices, I get a notice in the top-right of the screen saying the devices have low power.
I have attachted a couple of screenshots to show what I'm seeing. Please let me know if I can provide further information to help resolve the issue.
I have brand-new batteries in these devices BTW, and from an Apple computer, the devices are seen to have close to 100% charge.
