Bug Description

I used the Ubuntu installer on my PPC (PowerPC) machine to wipe my old Ubuntu Warty Warthog partition and replace it with Feisty Fawn. (The old swap partition was used in the new install.)

While the "Installing system" dialog was displayed, I received the error "subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 139" when the installation procedure was 96% complete. I am not certain what this error signifies.

At the time the error appears, the "Installing system" dialog displays "Installing system" as the main heading and "Completely removed fuse-utils" as the subheading.

After the preceding dialog was displayed another error dialog appears a few seconds later that there was a problem installing (removing?) gparted. Unfortunately I did not write down the error message.

No further errors occurred during the installation procedure.

Upon restart, however, I got the following error from the command-line early in the boot sequence:
> kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)

This error is fatal; Ubuntu fails to start up.

Wrong message and status. Sorry.

You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid I don't have any more spare space available on the original hardware that I tried to install Ubuntu Feisty Fawn on.

Feel free to close this, as it's unlikely that I'll be able to provide more information.

(For the record, I switched to Debian on that particular computer, which is about as close to Ubuntu as you can get.)
