Bug Description

On an MSI laptop with 64 bit Turion, ATI 200P chipset, X700 graphics card. Am testing Gutsy, Tribe 5 so we have kernel source 2.6.22-10 and fglrx 8.37.6. Laptop simply fails to susupend or hibernate; all I end up with is a blank screen with blinking cursor and only hard reboot will bring it back.

I consider this behavior a regression from that in Feisty (kernel 2.6.20-16 and fglrx 8.34.8). In the latter case, suspend and hibernate both occur and resume for both works with the hack of /etc/default/acpi-support given in http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/84991.

I have tried to build a latter ATI driver with the same behaviour. Also I tried suspend and hibernate with the vesa driver and it works, however a message error appears on resume that the machine failed to suspend (which it in fact did).

Am attaching output of lspci and dmesg.

Any thoughts?

Same problem here also MSI TL-50 (64 bit dual core) but ATI 200M card. Tested on Gutsy T4/5 with 2.6.22-9 and 10 with fglrx 8.40.4
When i press the suspend or hibernate button screen goes black.. and thats it.. no return to X is possible only SysRq key works

I have the same exact problem. Like scarecrow and osteenbergen, I can suspend my T60 using vesa driver with no problem.

Another way for me to suspend, is to switch to a VT, stop gdm, unload fglrx, blacklist fglrx, then run
sudo pmi action sleep

It's a lot of work but it works. Although I don't really benefit anything since I have to close my existing X session :(

same problem here on a Thinkpad z61p running Gutsy Tribe 5. This seems related to a Kernel update incompatibility after 22.7 , since the machine suspended fine before the update to 22.8

Same Problem on my HP nx6325 using the X1150 chipset and fglrx drivers... "radeon" drivers work fine, also after suspend.
