[Gutsy] GDM logout hangs if Power Manager is disabled

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

If the gnome-power-manager daemon is disabled in System -> Preferences -> Session -> Startup, calling the logout dialog in GDM will hang for a brief period of time. This has the potential to make users think their system has crashed and do a hard power off.

I noticed this issue randomly with gnome-power-manager enabled. But with disabled PM it is 100% reproducible. At the moment PM is realy unstable and to make some things working easyer temporaly disable PM.

I seem to have the same problem under 7.10 final on a Centrino notebook.
Logout dialog never appears when power manager is not running.
Else it happens sometimes.
For me it locks the entire machine, Ctrl-Alt-F*,-Del,-Backspace
don't work so I have to pull the power plug.

I have a solution for Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) Gnome quit hanging with or without
"gnome-power-manager". The "gnome-power-manager_2.20.0-0ubuntu6_amd64.deb"
packaged which is installed as default is broken.

To fix just install the "gnome-power-manager" from Ubuntu 7.04 (feisty) and two required
dependencies. Ubuntu is good as it makes a release every six months I can always roll
back to old version of packages. I have use similar workarounds in Ubuntu by rolling
back selected packages.

wget http://uk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gnome-power-manager/\
gnome-power-manager_2.18.2-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb

wget http://uk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libw/libwnck/\
libwnck18_2.18.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb

wget http://uk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libw/libwnck/\
libwnck-common_2.18.0-0ubuntu1_all.deb

dpkg -i gnome-power-manager_2.18.2-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb \
libwnck18_2.18.0-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb libwnck-common_2.18.0-0ubuntu1_all.deb

This is the last show stopper which prevented me from re-labelling my Ubuntu 7.10
partition as "stable" rather than "testing".
