Bug Description

Usually, the devices appear on the desktop and in Places menu in gnome-panel,
after a nautilus crash, the devices disappear from both places, and their label
in computer:/// changes to a unique lable (i.e.: 80G Media).

devices are listed in /etc/fstab (they appear in computer:///) and mounted.
kernel is 2.6.10-4-686.

I don't really understand this bug. The first screenshot seems to come from a
gnomevfs working without hal, the second one get the label from hal which is the
correct behaviour.
The menu/desktop issue should be fixed with the current kernel, have you
rebooted with the new version ? Is gamin running ?

gamin is running, so as hald and gnome-vfs-daemon.
update: nautilus-before non relevant, devices appear only as shown in
nautilus-after, and do not appear on the desktop/Places at all.
i've also rebooted the machine.

what do you have in your /etc/fstab ?

no need of /etc/fstab in fact, the places menu and the desktop only displays
removables medias, this is the correct behaviour.

Just got a fresh hoary install, and it doesn't seem to happen.
Guess all of those dist-upgrade's broke something.
