Unity does not update window indicator when opening or closing a window

Bug Description
How to reproduce:
Open firefox or chrome from the unity toolbar. They do not need to be locked to launcher.
Open a new window with ctrl-n or with the menu.
The indicator to the left of the icon does not update unless you double click the icon to view all windows.
Same with closing a window.
I've only had this problem when I upgraded to 14.04 x64. Previously I was using 13.10 x64 and had no problems, I have tried reinstalling and installing on a new computer (from one that had Intel Graphics to a desktop with Nvidia and a fresh install).
Just to be sure I didn't download a corrupted copy I redownloaded the iso today and ran it in a VM. The same problem can be observed with just the live cd.

This is a twelve duplicate of bug #1283775. Next time please do some searching and make sure that there are no similar bug reports already opened.
As for the bug it should be resolved with next SRU (Stable Release Update) of Unity for Trusty. Also it is already resolved in Utopic development version.
