Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 3.13.0-30-generic x86_64. The version of gstreamer1.0-libav:amd64 is 1.2.4-1~ubuntu1. I did not install gstreamer1.0-libav:i386.

Before this problem emerges I was trying to recover a broken gnome desktop, during which process, I first reinstalled all packages related to display and then downgraded them by editing /etc/apt/preferences ( Pin: release a=trusty* ).

The old problem about gnome desktop was then solved. However, now I get new problems with gstreamer1.0-libav:amd64.

Every time I boot into Ubuntu, from the result of dmesg, I will always be able to find that libgstlibav.so crashed because of segfault. It is right after this error message appears that my laptop will start to heat, even if I do not launch any application.

The temperature of my laptop is now 20 centigrade degrees higher than normal. And I have tried to uninstall the gstreamer1.0-libav package, which does solve the heat problem.

However, the 'apt' package system thinks that gnome desktop depends on gstreamer1.0-libav, although actually everything worked well without the package. Thus I have to manually create fake packages to have gnome not depend on it.
