Bug Description

Linux Mint 17.

Tried to install package 'gradle' with synaptic package manager.
After confirming the additional needed packages, gradle was marked red in the list and
the message "Could not apply changes! Fix broken packages first." appeared.

Trying to install from the commandline using
apt-get install graddle outputs the following:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gradle : Depends: libgradle-plugins-java (= 1.4-2ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Unreproducible in a fresh installation. Check your repository settings, this is not a Linux Mint bug.

Tried the same on a second installation (first was a notebook, this is a PC) with the same result!
Seems to be a problem of already installed software.
List of additional installed packages on my computers is in the comment below.

I've same issue exactly and I think this issue is related to Linux Mint.

I fixed this issue by installing gradle from the mentioned PPA above.

The problem persisted for me also in Linux Mint x64 17.1. I'm also quite sure, that this is a Linux Mint problem. Unfortunately, this seems to be ignored by the maintainers...

Still not reproducible in a fresh Mint 17.1 installation.

Please look at http://pastebin.com/7m6wceK8 and maybe try to repeat these steps.

Do you have libtomcat6-java or libtomcat7-java installed?

Nevermind, I've found the culprit: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1286779
They've still not pushed the update to Ubuntu 14.04, that's why you're having the problem in Mint.

Since this is not a Mint-specific issue, I'm closing it. Please leave your comments in the mentioned bug report so the upstream maintainers would see them.
