Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

This bug is very similar to bug 69247 and quite similar to 77441.

When in any Openoffice application and I do the following, File-->New-->Templates and Documents, then click on any item in the centre panel, a crash occurs and instantly a recover document box appears, click OK and OO restarts. Clicking on the left panel works fine and the actual Templates and Documents dialog box sits there quite happily without crashing.

System: AMD DUron 1800+, Nvidia 6600GT and Feisty

Backtrace: Unable to obtain, due to Desktop hanging when attempting to recreate crash through gdb, either when starting program soffice.bin through gdb or attaching the running process. Both cause the entire desktop to hang with only the mouse available. Switching to a TTY and issuing a kill command on the gdb process brings everthing back to life. Running top in a TTY when the Desktop is hanging reveals little or no CPU work.

Are you running Kubuntu or Ubuntu? Also I believe this bug does not exist in Gutsy.

Thanks,

Chris

Running Ubuntu. This bug has been around for me since Openoffice changed to verion 2 in Ubuntu. I think that was in Dapper or Edgy.

The gdb program dies when I attempt to run this backtrace. However I have attached the backtrace even though it appears to be missing any relevant data. Is there anything else I can do to assist in resolving this bug.

Do you have openoffice.org-base installed and if not does installing it help solve the problem for you?

Thanks,

Openoffice.org-base has been installed. I recently upgraded to the Gutsy version 2.3 which updated itself this morning to remove the Ubuntu logo. Even with this most-ip-to-date version has the same problem, which confuses me?!? I thought this had been fixed in the Gutsy version.?

I am not sure what the problem was but I finally fixed this problem by uninstalling Ubuntu, formatting the partition and reinstalling from scratch.
