14.04 Instal: grub installer failed while finishing install to raid 1 array

Bug Description
I was installing to a raid-1 array, that I'd set up in a Live CD session, which utilised several partitions on the internal HDD of my HP laptop, and mirrored partitions on an external usb HDD (WD My Passport, 1TB).
I asked the instaler to install the bootloader to /dev/md0 - where my /boot partition had been created (500MB)
