Bug Description

CID: 201401-14542 Dell Inspiron 5547

This system can be suspended, but it cannot resume from suspend with fglrx.
(Without the proprietary driver, which means run on the Intel GPU, suspend works fine with it)

Steps:
1. Install 14.04 + update (3.13.0-29) + fglrx (2:13.350.1-0ubuntu2)
2. Boot to desktop, suspend it with the option in the power menu
3. Wake it up by pressing the power button

Expected result:
* Suspend / resume should work.

Actual result:
* System suspended, but unable to resume properly, it will stuck on the login screen with fan running at full speed. Touchpad and caps Lock LED are not responding

Since we will need to test the hybrid graphic feature, and it needs the proprietary driver to switch between the integrated and discrete GPU, I will mark this bug as a blocker.

Alberto, is there any newer fglrx driver available for testing?

it would help to see dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log right after reproducing the problem (by accessing the machine through SSH).

@Anthony: you can try the following driver:

The driver built with comment #3 and #4 could solve this resume-from-suspend issue.

the only error relevant to fglrx that I can see is the following and happens when suspending:

[ 151.460770] <3>[fglrx:firegl_pplib_notify_event] *ERROR* PPLIB: PPLib Notify Event failed!
[ 151.460772] <3>[fglrx:firegl_pplib_notify_event] *ERROR* ulEventType = 00000002, ulEventData = 00000000

I'm not familiar with AMD's proprietary code though, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

@Po-Hsu, we would need more info on the system config when the issue is happening. With AMD's fglrx driver installed, can you help make sure what graphics mode (I or A) when the issue happens?

To find out which graphics module is in use:

aticonfig --pxl

To switch to Intel, run the following command and reboot:

sudo aticonfig --px-igpu

To switch to AMD, run the following command and reboot:

sudo aticonfig --px-dgpu

Please also include the /var/log/syslog file after failure happens. Thanks.

Hi Chih,
The "aticonfig --pxl" command shows:
"aticonfig: No supported adapters detected"
But from AMD Catalyst Control Center (amdccle), it says that the system in using the "High Performance GPU"

If switch to "Power-saving GPU" (Intel) by using amdccle, suspend / resume works fine

I had the very same probem on a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-166 that has the same GPU.

I've installed the beta driver as suggested in #3 and the problem seems to be fixed now (just suspended and resumed successfully).

Note that to install that driver I needed to switch to the AMD adapter via amdcccle and reboot otherwise the installer believed no supported GPU were present.

I'd say fixed upstream.

With 14.04.1 stock image installed, the fglrx package is now 2:15.200-0ubuntu0.5
And it works with suspend. I will mark this bug as "Fix-Released"
Thanks
