ReText is not displaying toolbar icons

Ubuntu 14.04 has a bug with ReText 4.1.2 - The toolbar icons are not shown. This is a known issue at ReText bugtracker:

Unfortunately the only way to fix this is using Qt 5 version of ReText. I had to do a last-minute revert to Qt 4 for Trusty, but you can try to install the .deb from Utopic, it should work well.

By the way, which DE are you using? If it is some well-known Gtk 2 DE like Xfce or LXDE, I may try to get a fix for that into Qt 4.

Currently Ubuntu 14.04 with trusty-security, trusty-updates, trusty-proposed and trusty-backports turned on.

Perhaps you should wait for bug 1305294 to be fixed (the fix is in
progress).

Until the bug is fixed, you can open ReText preferences and set the icon theme to "ubuntu-mono-dark".
