Gimp does not open pdf

Bug Description
Trying to open a pdf file gives the message (after selecting 'all files'):
'/home/
It is possible though to export an image as pdf.
This problem started in Ubuntu 13.10 (can't remember any
specific change or update in other packages other than the regular updates from
Ubuntu repositories) and persisted after a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04 and
Gimp.

Are you sure, that the problem appeared in 13.10? I tested it on 13.10 and 14.04 without this problem. Try other PDF file, this PDF file may be corrupted.
