Bug Description

I have been using Aptana Studio 3 3.4.1 today and it has caused my xsession to crash several times. I find myself looking at an ASCII console. This only happens when I am actively working with Aptana Studio 3. It happens while doing various actions in Aptana such as browsing directories or editing html files. it didn't happen the last time I used Aptana, which was well over a year ago. There have been reports on the web of Aptana crashing after upgrading to 14.04, but none I can find mention the xserver dying.

What should happen: If Aptana has to crash the xserver should not come down with it.

I now suspect that the issue may be something to do with Open Java. I switched to Oracle Java this morning and so far I have not had a crash, although it is still early days. I will let you know if I do get another xserver crash.

However I am leaving this as an xorg bug because a misbehaving Java environment should not be able to bring the xserver down.

With reference to my previous post, I have just had another xserver crash while using Aptana with Oracle Java, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with Open Java after all.

@halfbeing: did you find any workaround?
It seems that nothing is going to happen with this.
Did you find a good replacement of aptana?
Thanks.

To be honest I can't remember what I did. It was a couple of months back that I was working on my web site. I have a feeling I may have somehow finished the job in Aptana, because I can't remember sticking with any alternative software. I have both version 3.4.1 and 3.4.2 on my machine, so perhaps I used 3.4.2, but I can't remember for certain. I don't want to test it right now because I am in the middle of something and I don't want any crashes. I can't remember where I got 3.4.2 from either, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. I hope that helps at least a little.

Ok, thanks.
I have upgraded to the latest version and it seems ok.
Whenever I started Aptana checking the editor was the first.
I think I always crashed it before it could offer the updates :)

halfbeing, as per http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-r-series-laptops/thinkpad-r61 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2.24). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette .

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.

Thank you for your understanding.
